Alexandra Truesdale studied law at Oxford University and qualified as a Solicitor and Solicitor Advocate. After 15 years’ practice at one of the UK’s leading international law firms and following a career break to raise her family, Alex founded Alex Truesdale Wills Limited to provide a professional and personal will drafting and estate planning service covering the Surrey, Kent and greater London areas.

Alex continues to be involved with the development of young lawyers and accountants by teaching law at BPP.

The Institute of Professional Willwriters (IPW)

Alexandra Truesdale is a member of the Institute of Professional Willwriters, the leading self-regulatory body in the sector and a constant campaigner for the formal regulation of the willwriting profession. The IPW is the only professional willwriting body whose Code of Practice has been officially approved by the Office of Fair Trading under its Consumer Codes Approval Scheme.

The Code of Practice provides clients of IPW members with assurances that:

Their Willwriter is competent to provide the services that they offer
Their Willwriter has professional indemnity insurance of at least £2 million
Their Willwriter has Public Liability Insurance of at least £2 million
They will have a cooling off period of at least seven days in which to decide not to proceed
In the event of a failure of a firm, if any money has been paid in advance of work being completed, that money will be refunded or the work completed by another practitioner
Any complaints against an IPW member will be dealt with through a three stage process
- an in-house process run by the IPW member
- a conciliation service provided by the IPW
- an independent arbitration scheme run for the IPW and its members by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators
