How does it work?

Call us on 07887 946557 or complete an enquiry form to arrange an appointment at a time and venue convenient to you.

We will send you an information pack, price list, our engagement letter and a Pre-visit checklist.

What you will need

You will need the following to hand for our first meeting:

  • two forms of identification – a passport and a recent utility bill would be perfect – plus a photocopy of each for our records
  • details of your assets and liabilities – as an aide memoire you may like to complete the following asset record form
  • the names and addresses of your proposed executors, trustees, guardians and beneficiaries

What we will discuss

At our first meeting we will discuss your personal circumstances, how best to reflect your aims and wishes in your Will, and whether you require any further services such as Lasting Powers of Attorney or Advance Decisions.

Once we have finalised how we can assist you, we will quote you a price which represents the total cost for the services we provide. When you are totally happy with this, we will ask you to sign both copies of our engagement letter and retain one for your records. We will confirm our quotation in writing and payment will only be due once we have completed our work to your entire satisfaction.

What happens next

Our aim is to have a draft Will with you by email or post for your consideration within seven days of our first meeting. Occasionally, this may not be possible if we require further information from you, in which case we will have a draft with you within seven days of receiving all the information we require.

Once you are entirely happy with your draft Will we will arrange a further appointment with you to oversee the formal signing and witnessing of your Will. You will need to arrange for two independent witnesses over the age of 18 to be present. This should only take 5-10 minutes so it may be most convenient to ask your neighbours to act as witnesses. Beneficiaries and their spouses should not be asked to be witnesses. Witnesses do not need to read through the contents of the Will, so your wishes will remain confidential.

If you have asked us to prepare Lasting Powers of Attorney or other associated documents, we will complete those with you once your witnesses have left.

Payment and follow-up actions

We would appreciate payment by cheque (payable to “Alex Truesdale Wills Limited”) or by electronic transfer, at our second appointment.

If you have asked us to arrange for the secure storage of your Will we will send you copies for your records, together with details of your National Will Safe identification number and retrieval procedures.

If we have prepared Lasting Powers of Attorney for you we recommend that you then register them with the Office of the Public Guardian. The Office of the Public Guardian charges a fee of £120 per LPA for registration. We do not charge any additional fee for the immediate registration of LPAs we have prepared.

Finally, we may ask you to complete a customer feedback form which the Institute of Professional Willwriters will use to monitor the quality of the service we provide.
